You can tell the producers tried to bring out the sibling-like bond between the two main characters, and it worked (for the most part). Where it lacked romance, it made up with bromance. Where it lacked action, it made up with suspense. However, it wasn't necessarily BAD either.
It did not go the way that I expected it to.

When I read the synopsis, I felt like it was my type of movie- I was expecting a movie that was action-packed, melodramatic, something that would take my breath away. If you want a quick, general review, go down to the bottom. Rewatch Value 5.0 I just wanted to clarify a few things for the people who are considering this movie. She is so good in this and if you don't cry during some of her later scenes, you're made of stone! Do I plan on watching this again? Absolutely!! But let me take a moment and talk about our little consummate actress, Kim Yoo Bin who plays the last little girl kidnapped. But let me tell you, even though the scenes are not graphic, I must warn you there is some seriously, twisted cruelty to animal scenes so Animal lovers, beware! Hopefully at the end of the movie, there is a notice that no animals were hurt during the filming. Kim Kang Woo as Yang Choon Dong was GREAT! He also brought to life the detective on the case. And as Kim Joon, he showed us how tortured his existence is. I cannot imagine being a person with this ability and being able to function on a daily basis. I have yet to see him in a role that he does not shine! And in this as Kim Joon is no exception. Kim Bum, to me is the best of the F4 when it comes to acting. Rewatch?!! You betcha! From beginning to end, I was enthralled and spell-bound by what was happening. Ben and his mother and the cast are real good actors. Ben has little faith in himself but the constant reassurance from his mom helps him succeed as a prominent a brain surgeon. It shows the Ben being made fun of and at times put down because he is smart and also because he black. This story shows the hardship of a black single mom raising two boys. This and other things cause her to get depressed and she seeks help. She explains to him some excuse about her not see without her glasses but she never told her kids she cannot read. She discovers he is having trouble reading because he cannot see and probably needs glasses. Ben's mother asks him to read some of the things in the cabinet where boxes are.
She is hardworking and encourages the kids to read and use their brain. She has a strong faith in God will not accept excuses. His mother keeps telling him he has to study and watch less TV. Ben is not doing well in school and is being made fun of. It starts off with young Ben a black child living with his mother and brother Curtis.
